ALTA surveyed 449 title pros. Both camps missed the point.

ALTA just surveyed 449 title pros across 47 states.

The reactions split into two camps.

Camp 1: "AI will automate 90% of this."

Camp 2: "AI can't touch what we do."

Both missed the point.

80% of purchase deals need 11+ docs reviewed. One in five need over 50 records. That's 50 documents an examiner shouldn't have to grind through alone. The right AI sits beside them, pulls out what matters, and lets them focus on the legal decision making where their mastery lies.

But here's the other side.

60% of transactions need 3 to 5 title issues cleared before closing. That work is messy. Phone calls. Judgment calls. Relationships with county clerks and attorneys. No AI is doing that.

The study conveyed something neither camp wanted to hear. Title work is human work. It runs on people, trust, and collaboration. But it ABSOLUTELY CAN benefit from AI, if designed meticulously and used with the right guardrails.
